BroadstairsLit is a brand new festival with a difference.
The town of Broadstairs, with its famed associations with Dickens and myriad of writerly connections, has long been crying out for a literary extravaganza on its calendar and now it’s got one all year round! The brainchild of Denise Martin-Harker and Broadstairs novelist Jane Wenham-Jones (later joined by Jacqui and Lee Wellbrook), BroadstairsLit was conceived to put on events at monthly intervals, celebrating writing in all its forms. It launched with a sell-out afternoon tea involving a scriptwriter and two actors from The Archers in June 2017, and has since welcomed a string of guests, including scriptwriter and BAFTA nominated actor Johnny Harris and his Jawbone co-star Michael Smiley, historical writer Hallie Rubenhold, Lucinda Hawksley great great granddaughter of Charles Dickens, top romantic novelist Katie Fforde and national treasure Sir Tony Robinson.
BroadstairsLit has teamed up with Waterstones to provide an opportunity to buy signed books at all events.
For budding to experienced storytellers, or those who like listening to them, Broadly Speaking is our free, open mic style event at the Yarrow Hotel, Broadstairs on the last Sunday of every month. If you want to tell a story, contact us.
