The BroadstairsLit team. March 2020
BroadstairsLit is a festival with a difference.
The town of Broadstairs, with its famed associations with Dickens and myriad of writerly connections, was long crying out for a literary extravaganza on its calendar and now it’s got one all year round!
The brainchild of Denise Martin-Harker and Broadstairs novelist Jane Wenham-Jones (later joined by Jacqui and Lee Wellbrook), BroadstairsLit was conceived to put on regular events, celebrating writing in all its forms. It launched with a sell-out ‘Cup of Tea with The Archers’ featuring scriptwriter Keri Davies, and two actors – Annabelle Dowler (Kirsty) and Trevor Harrison (Eddie Grundy) – from The Archers, in June 2017, and has since welcomed a string of guests, including the newly-ordained Jonathan Aitken; Archers actor Tim Bentinck, prolific journalist and Beatles biographer Hunter Davies and his daughter, the author Caitlin Davies; top romantic novelist Katie Fforde; scriptwriter and BAFTA nominated actor Johnny Harris with his Jawbone co-star Michael Smiley; Lucinda Hawksley great-great-great-granddaughter of Charles Dickens; actress and comedian Helen Lederer; acclaimed chef Chetna Makan; TV presenter and children’s author Dermot O’Leary, Archers actress Sunny Ormonde, national treasure Sir Tony Robinson; TV historian Hallie Rubenhold and the former hostage Terry Waite.
BroadstairsLit has teamed up with Waterstones to provide an opportunity to buy signed books at all events.
Keep up to date with all our events and news –
